About us
Rubicon Leisure founded by Redditch Borough Council in 2018, has a mission to inspire the communities of Redditch to live healthier and happier lives by providing access to fitness, arts, culture, recreational, and heritage spaces.
From the rich history of the Palace Theatre, which first opened its doors in August 1913, to our exciting 2024 boat hire offering at The Boathouse at Arrow Valley Visitor Centre, we take pride in continually expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of Redditch.
We currently operate nine sites: Abbey Stadium and Pitcheroak Golf Course, providing two fantastic leisure facilities for our community. Our cultural offerings include the Forge Mill Needle Museum and Bordesley Abbey Visitor Centre, and The Palace Theatre. The Boathouse Café at Arrow Valley Visitor Centre and our water sports facilities offer a great recreational space, while our four community centres; Batchley, Windmill, Oakenshaw and Winyates Green serve as hubs for local engagement.
Abbey Stadium
Abbey Stadium is a fully equipped leisure centre featuring a swimming pool, indoor and outdoor gyms, a running track, and a wide range of classes and health facilities.
Pitcheroak Golf Course
At Pitcheroak Golf Course, you can enjoy a round of golf with friends, indulge in Redditch’s finest breakfast and other delicious options in the clubhouse, or make a day of it and do both!
Forge Mill Needle Museum and Bordesley Abbey Visitor Centre
This unique site, rich in local history, combines the industrial needle making history of Redditch with archaeological finds from a medieval Cistercian abbey. As well as a coffee bar and play area there is a varied programme of events, exhibitions and activities.
Palace Theatre
Escape for an evening of entertainment with a variety of shows, including tribute acts, plays, musicals, comedians, pantomimes, and much more.
Arrow Valley Visitor Centre
The Boathouse Café at Arrow Valley Visitor Centre is the perfect spot to meet with friends and family, enjoy lunch, indulge in cakes and pastries, or simply relax with a drink while overlooking the stunning Arrow Valley Lake. In the warmer months, you can hire a swan pedalo or kayak and experience the lake from a unique perspective.
Community Centres
At Batchley, Windmill, Oakenshaw, and Winyates Green community centres you can get involved with community groups, activities and clubs or host your own special occasion.
Events
Throughout the year, we host a variety of activities and events across several of our sites, ranging from music performances, theatre shows, and historical weekends to health days and coffee mornings, all aimed at fostering a greater sense of community.
Swimming: Learning New Skills
We support over 2,000 young people in learning to swim, from babies through to 16-year-olds, along with an additional 50 adults, including a ladies-only group.
Preserving Local History
We invest in and manage the preservation of two of Redditch’s most historic buildings.
From the Victorian industrial buildings of Forge Mill, the only water powered needle scouring mill left in the world to the Edwardian grandeur of the Palace Theatre.
Health & Happiness
We enhance the health and wellbeing of thousands of local residents by providing access to high-quality sports and leisure facilities, not only at Abbey Stadium but also across our other locations too.
